The health-consciousculture & Health Sciences Education in Canada

The 2017 Health &Wellness Country Report published by Euromonitor International shows that thehealth-conscious culture continues to evolve in Canada, as manifested in a widerange of areas. Consumers are increasingly careful of the food and beveragesthey eat and drink, and constantly examine product labels and ingredient lists. As such, they place greater emphasis on food and beverages that are morenatural and less processed. Meanwhile, they seek additional nutritional valueand also convenient and time-saving formats. Thus, overall demand for healthand wellness continues to rise, which is further reinforced by growth in theelderly population and rising purchasing power among the younger generation, including millennials. Health and wellness remains a potent driver of categorysales, particularly in low-growth or declining categories (emphases added).

Behindthe health-conscious culture, it is inseparable from the education of health scienceand nutrition that Canada has implemented in primary and secondary schools.

Do you know any Nutritional Topics that your Kids may had been Done during theSchool?

Children living in Canada have education in healthsciences. The content of each school is not necessarily the same, but thenutritional topics are to be considered in daily life. It may be unfamiliar tomany busy parents, because recent surveys showed that parents do not know muchabout their children’s school. The following is a typical dialogue between twofriends (Readers may try to investigate the surrounding parents’ education onchildren’s’ health science in school ^_^).

A: How many children do you have?
B: 2 children. An 11 year old and a 15 year old.

A: Do you know if your child has a nutritioncourse in school?
B: I don’t know.

A: You can ask your child if they already havenutritional study and assignments.
B: Ok.

A: I know that there is a life-cycle nutritionmanagement competition. I am helping my children prepare for the competitionand ask my 2 kids to choose the articles from their assignments to participatein the competition.
B: Really? How to participate in the competition?

A: You can take a look at the nutrition topicsthat your child has done at school, or discuss with nutrition experts andchoose the topics. This is a great opportunity for parent-child interaction. Itis better to win the prizes by participating in the competition, but whether ornot you win the prize, I hope that the children will participate and share theexperience of nutrition and health with others, and enlighten children tothink. I will show you an article about a 9-year-old child participating in thecompetition.
B: Thank you, it’s great. I will go home anddiscuss the competition with my kids today. It is a little bit difficult toconsider how to talk to children about nutrition and health. It’s much betterfor us to engage in a conversation with our kids if there is such acompetition.

Create a Learning Environmentfor the Children, Enlighten their thinking and Practice Health SciencesTogether

This article is clever through the way of newsreporting – from the series of emergencies to think about the common healthissues, and give solutions. For example, you may get nutritionist advice to goto the gym, make proper diet plan, choose vegetables and healthier thingsinstead of fast food, go out with sunscreen, exercise plan…

Regardless of whether the above-mentioned planproposed by the child is correct, the key point is that when our teachers andparents guide the children from their normal life, and create a learningenvironment for the children, enlighten the children to think, we often havemany surprises. We believe that will bring a healthy wealth for the kid’sfuture.

Guide Kid’s Research on Web& Learning the basic Concepts of Health Sciences

In addition, there is a lot of information on theInternet. By participating in the competition, professionals and parents guidetheir children to search for the most accurate information.

Below is some information that the kids search:

Nutritionthrough the lifecycle

An individual’s needs for nutrients and energychange over the life span. For example, while a typical adult woman may needonly 6.7 milligrams of calcium per pound of body weight, a nine-month-oldinfant needs 27 milligrams of calcium per pound of body weight.

It is during a body’s growth periods that theneed for nutrients is greatest. These occur during infancy, adolescence, andpregnancy. Once the growth period stops, energy needs and the need for certainnutrients declines.

The reasons behind a person’s food choicesalso varies across the life span because social, psychological, economic, andleisure roles change during that time period. For example, during the teenageyears, the opinions of peers and body image concerns become especiallyimportant. On the other hand, adults are more likely to be influenced by theirhealth needs.

Infants

The member’s manual discusses breastfeeding andbottle feeding options. Research shows that breastfeeding is good for both babyand mother. If teenagers learn about the benefits of breastfeeding, they may bemore likely to consider it when they are parents.

Generations ago, breastfeeding was the preferredfeeding method. As formula became readily available, bottle feeding became morepopular. At the same time, a trend toward feeding babies solid food at an earlyage became popular as well. Today, trends in infant feeding are changing again.Breastfeeding has gained in popularity because of the nutritional benefits andantibodies (to protect against infection and allergies) that breast milkprovides for the baby.
